Omnichannel: The Future of Retail

Omnichannel has been called the future of retail, so it’s no surprise that South Africa’s favourite online retailer Yuppiechef is pioneering the movement…

Launching their first brick and mortar store, Yuppiechef has successfully integrated smart technologies to make the experience between Yuppiechef.com and the physical store seamless. Not only that, but it has been designed to be an inspiring hub for homeowners, foodies and kitchen fundies alike.

With renowned interior design studio ARRCC on their side, the first store in Willowbridge Shopping Centre in Cape Town opened its doors to introduce something unlike anything the South African market has seen before. Boasting a functional test kitchen there is also a ‘genius bar’ where consumers can connect with the online store and continue their shopping experience, managing all of their delivery, registry and wrapping preferences.

“This store signifies the next step in the Yuppiechef journey and is in response to a changing global dynamic in retail. Consumers increasingly expect cross-channel capability from brands, and while the assumption is that traditional stores should be moving online, so too is there pressure on online brands to have a physical presence.” Andrew Smith, Co-founder Yuppiechef.

The store was designed to be approachable yet allowing the products to stand out. The materials are raw in nature and create a perfect balance between luxury and an industrial edge. In keeping with the innovative and luxurious nature of the store, ARRCC and Yuppiechef selected Frosty Carrina Caesarstone countertops for the kitchen and high traffic areas.

“Taking a brand that has flourished in a digital space for 11 years and bringing it to life in the physical sense, was a welcomed challenge. Most brands undertake this process in the opposite direction, so the brief was relatively unique.” – Jon Case, Director of ARRCC.

Curating the experience between their two channels was critically important in the planning process and their intention is that they will pioneer this thinking in South African retail.
