In search of the latest kitchen inspiration, we had a one-on-one with Selma Zaifoglu, Director of local kitchen company Linear Concepts. And with the launch of their extensive new showroom featuring the new Caesarstone colours, it was a good place to start…

Above: The Caesarstone concrete-inspired colours bring depth and texture to a space.

To Gloss or not to Gloss?

At the moment this is probably the most common question we get asked by homeowners when doing their kitchens – are high gloss surfaces going to go out of fashion? Ultimately, satin matt finishes are clearly becoming more and more popular and there is a wide range of options available. At the end of the day, if polished and gloss surfaces catch your eye, then go for it!

Turn up the Heat

If you want to tap into a hot trend that is still proving popular, incorporate the use of natural materials like wood and textured fibres. This will bring a warmth to your space, especially when including satin finishes.

Top Three:

If I could pick the three most important elements to make your kitchen stand the test of time, it would be to select high quality surfaces, LED lighting and high-end door finishes. These are all important elements because, when they are combined, a kitchen becomes a more bespoke contemporary design, and hardworking.

Tech-Head

The kitchen has become an exciting and efficient place with all of the new inventions and innovaitons. My favourite addition is a dual purpose stone prep bowl, which has a lifting mechanism making the stone flush with the worktop and lowered to a prep bowl. Another has to be the clever advances with pocket doors, which are used for small appliance counters, such as toasters, blenders or food processors, this enables you to leave the section opened or closed, as the doors open and slide back into the unit.

Linear Concepts brings European designs with high-end finishes to South Africa, while still manufacturing locally. Their knowledge and deep understanding of European design trends and their backgrounds as architects allow them to offer great quality, bespoke designs. All of these installations were perfectly installed by Natural Stone Design, a Caesarstone Accredited Fabricator.
